Welcoming Our Newest Innkeeper: Emma
Originally from Durham, England, I spent several years at Leeds Metropolitan University studying Physical
Education. Whilst in my final year, the summer was fast approaching, as was the decision of what to do next. My options after graduating were to go back to university to complete my teaching degree, as I’d planned since a young age, or take a year off to travel. I chose the year off and now, almost six years and 25 countries later (for a total of 42!), I find myself still travelling and working my way around the world.
My first stop after graduating was the Tyler Place Family Resort, the all-inclusive, seasonal, sister property of the Red Clover Inn & Restaurant, in the summer of 2011. Since then, I have spent the last six summers at the Tyler Place in various roles and departments. In between summers, I spent three winters working ski seasons in Austria and France, eight months living in Australia, several months backpacking Europe and South East Asia, and have worked numerous jobs here and there to fund my travels.
During the summer of 2016, I was offered the opportunity to spend a year working on a hospitality management training program between the Tyler Place and Red Clover Inn & Restaurant. I returned to the U.S. in December of 2016, and am currently working as an Innkeeper at the Red Clover Inn. I’ve found the Red Clover to be an idyllic, relaxing adult retreat- and the restaurant is to die for! I also love the proximity to Killington Resort, so I can expand my skiing terrain and experience. Although I arrived at the busiest time of the year, and have been quickly thrown in to learn various roles at the Inn, I’ve loved every second. It’s not hard to tell that the Tyler family own both the Red Clover & the Tyler Place, as both are instilled with the personal touch that makes both properties so special.
I am excited to be back in America and to be spending a full year working between the two properties. I’m hopeful that this year will provide me with valuable training and work experience for my future career, which is no longer to teach. My experiences travelling have inspired me to work in travel, preferably with the ski industry. I’m looking forward to experiencing all four seasons in Vermont for the first time, and to participate in all the activities each season brings. I’m at my happiest when I’m on a mountain either skiing or hiking, or when I’m on the water, so Vermont is a great place to be. I’m also hoping to tick some more US states and cities off my ever-increasing bucket list.
Vermont has become a second home to me, and the Tyler family have become my family. The memories & friendships that I take away from the Tyler Place are some of the best, and I look forward to those same relationships with the Red Clover. Hope to see familiar faces back in Highgate Springs this summer… and if anyone fancies a child-free weekend, come visit me at The Red Clover Inn & Restaurant!
